How to Become a Law Librarian

When you’re trying to start your career, there are a ton of options that are available to you. You can pick just about anything you want when you’re trying to figure out which job is right for you, and it can even start to get to the point where all of your options can feel a little bit overwhelming. With so many different positions to choose from, it can be tough to narrow things down. You’ve got to make sure that you’re able to find work that you can enjoy doing, though, so that your career isn’t something which completely drains the life out of you.

If you love research and organization, there are a few lines of work that will be a lot of fun, and very enjoyable for you to do. There are plenty of positions that will have you surrounded by books, but working as a librarian is one of the best. Maybe you’re looking to start a brand new career. This can be a very exciting feeling, as there is a ton of potential while you decide what it is you want to do. Perhaps you’re looking for a career change, and are feeling like your current job just isn’t right for you. This is a pretty normal thing to experience, and many individuals wind up looking for a new line of work after getting comfortable in their current positions. Whatever the case may be, there are a lot of situations in which you might be looking for a new job. When you are, you can pick just about anything. If you love libraries, though, you might want to think about becoming a librarian. When you combine this with a love for the law, you get to enjoy a career working as a law librarian.

When you’re looking to work as a librarian, you can major in just about anything during your college years. Should you want to work as a law librarian, though, your studies will have to be a little more specific. You’re going to need to go to law school, earn your degree, and then pass the Bar exam. You can use the Internet to find out where testing is offered. You’ll have to make sure that you’ve gotten your degree first, though. When you’ve completed your undergraduate studies and passed the Bar exam, you’re going to need to get your Master’s in Library Sciences, or your MLS. Once you’ve earned this, you’re all set! Post your resume online and start looking for work at a place that will truly interest you. You might have a great law degree and USC’s library science degree but you’re still going to need to hunt around for some employment. Look for work that you think you’ll seriously enjoy so that you can get your new career off to a great start. When you work as a law librarian, you get to deal with a lot of research, organization, and complicated legal matters. If these are things that you enjoy, though, you’re going to really love your new career.
